Professional Highlights:
Stephanie Higgins’ research in the field of vocal pedagogy awarded her a prestigious doctoral research grant through the Fonds de recherche du Quebec – Societe et culture (CAN). Throughout her doctoral research, “From Classical Music to Music Theatre: A Pedagogical Compendium for the Classical Teacher Crossing Over,” Higgins has worked with leading pedagogues in Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) in the United States and Canada. Her students can be heard on Broadway, television and in recording studios across North America.
As a flexible vocalist, she has performed with the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir; the folk songs of Canadian legend Rita MacNeil in “Now the Bells Ring: A Rita MacNeil Christmas Tribute;” and most recently the live CD release of “Mama’s Kitchen” by Paul Dunn on which she is featured. Higgins has had the privilege of crafting the musical theatre roles of Juliet in the world premiere of Canadian playwright George Rideout’s bluegrass adaptation “The Ballad of Romeo and Juliet,” and Puck in “A Beatle’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.” She has been heard with Shenandoah Conservatory’s EDGE Ensemble in “Sparrows” with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Joseph Schwantner and in “Four Proverbs” by Michael Torke.
